Nova Scotia Votes 2009: A view from an Albertan ex-pat

Well, it's election time in Nova Scotia, which I'm looking forward to seeing considering I grew up under the "1 party system" that is Albertan politics, meaning despite our best wishes, the outcome of our elections are already pretty much forgone conclusions. For the sake of my non-Nova Scotian readers, here's the parties as they stand right now. All three of the parties with seats in the leg have been running adds pretty much since I got here last fall. Considering I have a history of voting for a variety of different parties,I haven't decided who I'm going to vote for out here yet, so we'll have a look at parties and policies as the campaign moves forward.

Nova Scotia Liberal Party is apparently trying to define themselves in what the media (and the Premier) is shaping up as a two-horse race between the NDP and the Tories. Since last fall, they've been running adds like this, trying to let the province know who their relatively new leader is.

The Progressive Conservatives, for their part, appear to view the NDP as their main opposition. Taking a cue from their federal counterparts, Premier Rodney MacDonald and his crew are attempting to paint the 'Dippers as "scary" and "fiscally irresponsible", which is funny considering his government was brought down due to accusations of fiscal irresponsibility.

The Dippers have been shooting right back, with the following:

So there we are. The next 35 days should be interesting. Most recent polls have the NDP at 36%, with the Liberals and Tories in a statistical tie at 31% and 30% respectively.

It's funny, the liberal add you just chose lays out one of Darrell Dexter's plans he's had on the go for several years now that they stole!
They're trying to be relevant, but they come off as a watered down NDP without the gusto!
